Lost and Found:
The Inclusive Revolution
Anti-racism activist, diversity educator Jane Elliot has a mantra about the
civil war about the fact that it should be called the uncivil war because there
is nothing civil about war.
The narrative which has been given to this event is nothing
new and it is time we raise our awareness while opportunists are putting makeup
on war to seduce the population.
There are two things which still go on strong even
during great economic depressions: makeup and war. Most ladies by now know that
selling makeup is big business and so is war. Furthermore, since the President
of the United States of America is a business man, he wants in on it. While
previous Presidents have demonstrated their priority began with the oath of
office, from his behaviors to responses after crises, 45 has been in an
unprecedented class of his own.
The reason why it is importantly troublesome is
because again unlike his predecessor, he failed miserably without even
attempting to unite the country. Racist individuals have never been so overt
about their hate from their language to actions.
In the mean time black individuals and groups are
being questioned on the legitimacy or the legality of their protests. Black
Live Matter has been sued and won their case. There is a narrative that the
Right media and other white supremacy supporters are pushing are how confusing
Kaepernick’s protest is and how much they are confused about the whole
situation. In his article,
, the pastor John
Pavlovitz says,
“To these people who
claim to offended, there are only two ways that Colin Kaepernick or any
other person of color for that matter, can protest the “right way”: shut
up or be white.”
The color of someone’s skin is not something people
chose, they are born with it. Some things need to be repeated even when they
should have been so simple initially and yet here we are discussing about them.
Even though most people will say that it
was not them who created the problem because they were not born yet, while on
the other hand when black women hair are not relaxed it is label as not being
professional. As a black person, growing up I was so used not seeing myself
that I remained so shy except for those few loud cathartic moments of outburst
from my voice being restrained.
The desire of Blacks wanting to be seen and heard
cannot continue like a bird that you put in a cage. When these wings stay in a
cage, it cause stress on the body and society needs its entire members to
respond at their optimal level. They need to be who they are. While society
asks blacks to look, talk, and act like white people do, the subliminal message
is still “If you are not white, shut up!”
Blacks need to be seen without only being the token
friend. Education can only be part of the answer if we change the program. It’s
time for an inclusive revolution. In addition to Blacks, all ethnicity need
to be seen in the school books, on TV & movies, and political candidates.
This is what it means to be Black in America, you get sued
for exercising your constitutional rights and people are telling you how wrong
you are going about your protest instead of them reacting to it with the respect
that the constitution provides to “free” people who voice their opinions.
“IF YOU'RE TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT RACISM, IMAGINE HOW
TIRED SOME PEOPLE ARE OF EXPERIENCING IT...”
Whether you do not get it or pretend the result is the
same. The protest is not something you get. It is not a disease. It's something
people sit down, take a deep breath (remember to breathe now), listen and if
they are lucky they will feel something that may remind them what compassion
felt like before they lost it.
